Sales
Retail Sales
- 2 Years Experience in Sales
- 1 Year as Sales and Service Manager
- Responsible for sales team and delivery drivers
- Responsible for setting all deliveries
- Setting delivery times and preparing the morning, afternoon and evening routes for drivers
- Responsible for repairing (or having repaired) all inventory items
- Television, DVD players, desktop and laptop computers, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers, bedroom furniture, and living room furniture
- Responsible for growing store's share of market in a small, over-saturated market
- Grew from 1/3 to 2/3 of market share in one year
- Promoted rapidly
- Started as delivery driver, moved to Manager-in-Training (Collections Department) within 6 months of starting the job, then to Sales and Service Manager within 3 months in that position
- As Manager -in-Training, I "cleaned up the numbers" faster than anyone in the region.
- The store manager that had just left was accepting payments of any kind to make his short-term numbers look good (this is very, very bad in the long run). This gained him a promotion, but then we were left having to clean up his mess. The Collections Manager and I got the numbers back to where they were supposed to be in record time. This is why I got promoted to Sales and Service Manager as fast as I did. They also increased my pay to the highest amount allowed for someone who was not a store manager. I was the only person in the store that had reached this maximum.
- Left the company to return to Louisiana (to be closer to my son in Lafayette)
- He was four years old at the time, and my new wife decided that she was willing to move from her home town so that I could build a relationship with my son. We are still extremely close to this day because my wife made this brave decision. I will never be able to repay her for this wonderful thing that she did for my son and me.
Business to Business Sales
- 2 Years Experience as a Sales and Marketing Manager of an employment agency
- Oversaw sales department
- Set and kept track of office-wide sales goals, determined what needed to be done in order to meet and then exceed these goals
- Created, and implemented, territorial sales plan for Lafayette office; oversaw plan, made changes as necessary
- Created, and implemented, marketing plan for Lafayette office; oversaw plan, made changes as necessary
- Responsible for growing an established company in a new market
- Company based out of Shreveport; had never done business in Lafayette before
- I was hired one week after they opened
- In charge of recruitment of new employees
- Would go out into the community and find people who were willing to work
- Pass out flyers, go door-to-door in neighborhoods, attend recruiting events, etc.
- Designed all marketing material
- Marketing flyers, recruiting flyers, sales proposal, quotes, personal papers (daily sales report, weekly mileage report, etc.)
- Most of this became the standard company-wide
- Gained many large accounts
- Bruce Foods, Tony Chachere's, Knight Oil Tools, numerous other food- and petrochemical-related businesses
- Minor I.T. work
- The IT manager was based out of Lafayette. When he was at another office out of town, I would perform his job (approximately half of which was performed with him on the phone)
Other Experience
- Core Analysis Technician
- Analyzed core samples in a geological testing lab to determine amounts, if any, of oil and natural gas at different depths
- Worked in Lafayette office during high school
- Moved to Houston after leaving college the first time to continue working for the same company, but in the international headquarters
- One of approximately 200 people in the country proficient in sidewall core analysis
- Sidewall core analysis is an extremely technical test performed on specific core samples taken downhole at pre-production well sites.
- Malachi Jr.
- Mr. Ted (the CEO of the company) called my father, who's name is Malcolm, Malachi (mainly because Mr. Ted is crazy). When I first moved to Houston he had me help him run a sidewall core job. By the time that the work was through he had started to call me Malachi Jr. because I was the only one in the office that could get the numbers to match up as well as they should (my father was the only other person at the company who was that good at sidewall core analysis). From that point on I was the only person that Mr. Ted would ask to help him with sidewall core analysis.
- Bartender
- Bar Trainer and Manager Trainee - generally a part-time second job while also working for other companies full-time
- Learned how to deal with people - drunk people are very hard to deal with. I learned many tricks for dealing with them without making anyone mad or causing any fights.
