My Goals

My Goals

Own My Own Business
  • I am currently building a website (RamenToWealthy.com) that teaches people how to start their own business without having to take out loans (bootstrapping)
    • The website is not complete, but what has been accomplished so far may be seen here.
    • See my LinkedIn page for a description of the site.
  • I have plans for a second website that teaches people the cultural and business aspects of China to help improve their chances of business success in the country
  • My mentor in both of these projects has been Dr. Ye-Sho Chen, Professor of Management Information Systems, Director of Emerging Markets Initiative, & Associate Director of International Franchise Forum at Louisiana State University.

Work in Economic Development
    • I want to help improve education, crime, poverty and economic activity in inner city neighborhoods
    • This can be done through economic development agencies and through urban planning groups
      • They each focus on certain aspects of the larger goal
      • I would also love to work for a real estate development company.  They only focus on a one aspect of urban design (the buildings themselves), but it is one of the parts about which I am most passionate.
    • Urban planning and economic development have been my passions since before I even knew what they were (thanks to the video game SimCity).  There is no way that I will ever stop working in those fields in some capacity, regardless of how much money I have.  Not to mention that my business is a form of economic development.
Own Real Estate
    • Focusing on Commercial RE in poorer areas of town, and dedicating a certain amount of space to locals who want to start their own business but don't have the money to rent a space.  Kind of like having a small business-incubator in each office building.
    • I also want to own low-income apartments.  All residents will be required to take certain classes - Financial literacy, goal setting, classes that teach how to be productive members of society, classes focused on teaching you how to raise your children to be productive members of society, how to start a business, how to find and apply for a job, etc.
    • I also want to build neighborhood-style developments.  I will focus on high-density developments that use as little resources as possible to house and employ as many people as possible.
    • All of these will help me reach my goal of working in urban design and economic development.
    • I love the concept of place, and have made a habit of studying what creates this sense of place that allows for people to feel comfortable and have the desire to be in the space created.
